Vicwest is reducing the carbon emissions footprint of our business with Bullfrog Power

We have some exciting news: as part of Earth Month, we want to share with you the Vicwest commitment we have made to eliminate our gas-related emissions footprint by 2020 with our partner, Bullfrog Power.

What does this mean?

Bullfrog’s producers put 100% green natural gas onto the pipeline to match the amount of conventional natural gas that Vicwest purchases. Basically, Bullfrog ensures the natural gas going on to the pipeline on our behalf is from renewable sources.

In 2017, we purchased green natural gas to match 50% of our gas consumption; and already in April 2018, we have increased this to 75%. Our goal is to reach 100% by 2020!

Sourced from a unique methane-capture project situated on one of Canada’s landfill sites, Bullfrog’s green natural gas is a climate-friendly alternative to conventional natural gas. Through innovative technology, biogas is captured, cleaned up, and injected onto the national natural gas pipeline, displacing fossil fuel-based gas and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

By choosing green natural gas, we are reducing Vicwest’s environmental impact, supporting the development of new community-based renewable energy projects in our region and all across Canada, and helping lead the way to a renewably powered future.

Thousands of Canadian homes and organizations are doing their part to address climate change by switching to green energy with Bullfrog Power. We are thrilled to be a part of this community, helping to bring about meaningful change for Canadians.

When used, green natural gas releases only the carbon dioxide that is part of the natural carbon cycle and would be produced in any event by the decay of organic waste. It is the same carbon dioxide that is needed by the next generation of plants and animals to grow. Unlike fossil fuel-based natural gas, green natural gas does not increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is considered a net-zero carbon dioxide emissions energy source that enables us to use appliances and heat our homes and businesses without contributing to climate change.

At Vicwest Building Products, we recognize the importance of addressing our environmental impact. We are excited to be taking a big step to reduce the carbon emissions footprint of our business with Bullfrog Power. By being ‘bullfrog powered’, we are also supporting the development of new green energy projects in our local community and across Canada. With our support, Bullfrog helps fund new community-based green energy projects across Canada—like solar panels on schools and community centres.
